The first step to creatng your online presence is of course to select the domain name. The domain name is the website address, e.g. (www.sheepishly.co.uk) When selecting the domain name you should take into consideration the following:
Once you have made a choice of domain name the next step is to see if that domain is available to buy.
You buy domain names through companies called registrars, basically these companies register that you have bought and own the domain name.
Once you have found an available Domain Name, you can then proceed to purchase it from your selected Registrar.
Many Registrars offer a lookup form to check the availablity of Domain Names, and here is one such form that I use. Selecting the domain name and completing this form will also allow you to buy a Website Hosting package.
There are literally hundreds of registrars, each with slightly different options and each charging different prices to register a domain name for you. Choosing one of these is a matter of preferrence but here are a few links to help you.
